Maltese in da house (exchange with AEGEE-Valletta)

10.02.2009

There is nothing could be better than changing your boring routine life for a week of incredible joy with fantastic friends! Without spending money for the travel costs, without leaving off work or studies it is possible to spend time with friends that are so close to you as TWINS!

Our dear TWINS from AEGEE-Valletta came to Kiev on the 1st of February. Typical Maltese Nikki, Alistair, Pierre, Marco, Mario, Paul and William for one week came from warm and sunny Malta to cold but very friendly Ukraine. Here they adopted a boy from Netherlands – Marius, now known as Mastro Lindo, adopted Maltese.

They were gritted in Kiev with hugs and kisses, with wine and homemade cooking (thank you, our sweet Cooking Responsible – Sasha Guseva) and of course with songs and dances. Kiev Witches (fictional heroes of the welcoming party) greeted guys in their best manner:  gave to drink some poisons (love poisons of course), then made spells on the participants and finally read the cards and told their fortunes.

Here the song of the TWINS had been sung for the first time.”I like my Twin , my Twin ya...I like my Twin, my Twin ya!!” was famous song “I like to move it move it” rephrased by our Creative Responsible – Olya Klymova. The song was changed and recorded in the professional studio. (click here to listen to THE TWIN SONG)

Do you know what the first thing is that Maltese people should do when they come to the cold countries? Exactly – go shopping for the warm clothes!! So after warming up they were ready for the excursions around sweet Kiev. They were provided by our best AEGEE-Kiev Excursions Responsible – Ira Kuchuk.

Every great AEGEE event has it. Know what? Absolutely right - European night! Thank you Kate Vronskaya for running a risk with both of your houses one for hosting of the participant and another for European night! That was the best presentations of the national Ukrainian costumes, Maltese liqueurs and Ukrainian vodka, national sweets and snacks, dances and games.

Organizers wanted participants to experience a real Ukrainian winter, so they were skiing and skating or better say falling down and falling down. As for snowball playing – it was considered as ridiculousJ.

Black ties, costumes, evening dresses, gorgeous men and women. That was our visit to the National Opera for the ballet Sleeping beauty. Yep, there were some like that around us. ;) But of course everyone had to woke up – cause next our point was the night club!!!

Most memorable party occurred on Wednesday. There were Pirates of the Caribbean Sea, Half of a dollar and Fergie, Barbie and Ken, Cesar and Cleopatra, Devil and Angel, Bonny and Clyde, Aladdin and Jasmine, and of course the best TWIN ever – Adams family: Gomez, Morticia and Hand!!! (Nikki Vella and Alla Resheten featuring ).

Podol, Aviation Museum, Chornobyl Museum and many other places were visited by our heroes. Hope they enjoyed it. Cause we do! But its time to say farewell to Kiev and move further!

And then we left to Lviv the city of stoned streets and CASTLES! Those organizers who stayed in Kiev had seen participants off the train. That was something –girls running behind the train and singing AE-GEE-Va-lletta , na na na na na na, AEGEE Valletta …. On the back exchange guys from Malta should work hard to do the same but with a plain instead of train.

Ukrainian train impressed people very much. If they didn’t get in time to Ukrainian banya – they experienced it here. Also they experienced the hospitability of conductors and benevolence of the compartments neighbors. If they could not sleep that much on the way to Lviv – so on the back trip sleeping in the train was no worse than in the 5 star hotelJ.

Lviv welcomed us with the warm sun, perfect walking weather and smiling people of AEGEE-Ivano-Frankivsk. That’s why we walked a lot, especially what will stick in the participant’s memory is 300 steps stairs (they promised to revenge by finding something like that in Malta), and the High Castle without a Castle (will never forget that much disappointed faces), partisan’s dugout with mead and plain Ukrainian food and café with best cakes ever. In order to compensate disappointment of not seeing a castle during our next day in Lviv we visited 3 of them.

Unfortunately all good things come to an end. But we all are very grateful to the person that made it start up – our Mummy – Chura-Chura-Churanooova Olya! That was an unforgettable week. The one that warmth your heart while you recall it. Thank you all organizers and participant for making it so warm!
